Analysis of Dam Overtopping Failure Risks Caused by Landslide-Induced Surges Considering Spatial Variability of Material Parameters

Many of the existing reservoir dams are constructed in alpine and gorge regions, where topography geological conditions complicated, bank slopes steep, landslides have a high potential to occur. Surges triggered by one major causes dam overtopping failures. factors affect slope stability banks height surges landslides, such as spatial variability material properties, speed etc. To reasonably evaluate risk caused landslide-induced is key technology engineering that urgent be solved. Therefore, novel analysis method for failures waves induced instability considering parameters proposed this study. Based on random field theory, simulation proposed, most dangerous slip surface determined with minimum value safety factors. The proxy models both consideration parameters, then failure calculated using Monte-Carlo sampling. applied practical project. Results show properties significantly affects slopes, without which risks may overestimated. This study gives more reasonable realistic assessment failures, can provide technical support evaluation control dams.
